Story 6 by Sheikh Saadi with Invaluable Insights
"A devout worshipper, who was a guest of a king, ate less than he wanted during meals and prolonged his prayers more than usual so that the king would praise his piety.
O Arab of the desert, I fear that you will not reach the Kaaba
Because the path you are traveling leads to Turkistan.
When he returned home, he desired to set up a dining spread. His intelligent son said: 'Father, did you not eat at the Sultan's table?' He replied: 'I did not eat to fulfill any purpose.' The boy said: 'Then perform the prayer again in the same manner because you did not achieve any purpose with it.'
O you who show your virtues on your palms
But hide your faults under your armpit
O self-loving fool, what will you buy with fake silver on the day of distress?'"
